WIKI LOVES EARTH
Wiki Loves Earth is an international photographic competition to promote natural heritage sites around the world through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons), and this is the Serbian version. Everybody can participate! There are a lot of natural heritage sites in Serbia, and the goal of Wiki Loves Earth is to encourage people to take pictures of those natural sites, and to put them under a free license so that others may access them through the Internet. The contest will take place from May 15 to June 30 2023.
In this period, you may upload as many pictures as you want of natural sites that you have visited. The pictures don't have to be taken in this period, but must be uploaded during that time to be considered. Provide your photo with {{Wiki Loves Earth 2023|RS}} template. At the end of the month, the contest jury will begin evaluating the photographs and will choose the best 10 pictures (divided in the categories landscape and macro) of the natural sites in Serbia, and ultimately in the world.
Why participate? Serbia's natural beauty is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. From the lush forests of Kopaonik National Park to the stunning gorges of Djerdap National Park, Serbia offers a diverse range of picturesque landscapes that are truly worth capturing through photography. Whether it's the vibrant colors of autumn or the majestic snow-capped mountains in winter, Serbia's nature is a photographer's dream.
Participating in the competition is a great way to experiment and learn which photos gain recognition. You certainly don't need to be a professional photographer to take photos useful for Wikipedia. Here's a great chance to try it out! Entries to the local competition are eligible for selection to the international finale and did we mention there are prices to win?
Competition rules
We try to keep the competition clean and simple to participate in. There are only a few rules for photos to participate in the contest in Serbia. Let's quickly go through them.
- All entries must be original photographs uploaded by their authors.
- Photos may have been taken at any time (including prior to this event), but must be uploaded within May 15 - June 30, 2023, to be eligible
- During the upload process, you must release your photo under a free license that allows for re-use of the image (CC BY-SA license or similar)
- Photos must be uploaded through this link in order to be properly tagged for the contest
- Lists of eligible sites are published this link. Photos of representative species (animals, plants etc.) taken in an eligible site also qualify if they are properly identified
- Digital manipulations must not deceive the viewer. Correcting flaws, some color adjustments, and other minor edits are acceptable.
- All photos must have at least 2Mpx.
Next to that, there are a few practical rules:
- You should have an activated e-mail address on Wikimedia Commons so that you can be contacted if you win.
- If the photo gets deleted for any reason, it is automatically disqualified from the competition.
- You are responsible for following the law while taking and uploading the photo.
Copyright notes
Please, keep in mind very important rules, before you upload any photo. All photos have to be you own work. All photos will be checked and compared for any match with photos available all around the web. If some photo isn't your own work, it will be permanently deleted from Commons.
